BatchEncoder for Handbrake Updated

Posted: November 21, 2011 in Uncategorized

Its been a long time coming…

BatchEncoder update is now releases, v2.3

Changes:

1. fixed recursive directory issue when using drag and drop
2. added last file processed to progress window
3. fixed issue with moving files after encoding them
4. Added move original files option
5. Lowered error limit on reporting
6. Add to itunes feature – check this and once encoded files will auto add to your itunes library
7. Updated metadata (album, track, albumname) now required by itunes when moving files to iPad, iPhone etc
8. Add NFO and mymovies metadata to advanced tab – note you must have that metadata already downloaded and in the correct structure for this to work
9. Now correctly pad episode and season to two chars.
10. All browse boxes are now read only to help with errors – no copy and paste of paths, browse only.
11. add command line feature – only to first N files in directory . Use: batchgui.exe autorun N (where N is the number of files you want it to process
12. Add add toitunes logging file in program folder

There are still some to dos on the list: VTS file count, possible error on scannign for title count on video_TS, ability to add suffix to final files, disable progress screen. ETA two weeks.

HI, loving your apps especially the batch encoder. is there a way to run this with command line options so i can set up scheduled tasks? if so is there a list of the command line options anywhere or any examples? thanks again

    • videoscripts says:

There is only one command line – autostart. This just runs exe app using the last settings you used. In use it’s batchGUI.exe autostart

That runs it silently and it will close when done.

If you have ideas as to how you would like to use command line, detail it and I will see what we can do in the next release.

Hi there, first off, let me know that i love this program. I use it DAILY to encode my TV shows and movies. for some reason, since the upgrade to this version, the software is no longer adding MetaData or renaming the files properly. Any thoughts? I have the Add Meta Data checked, but that doesnt seem to help. I have uninstalled and re-installed with the same problem.

    Thanks much

    app

    • videoscripts says:

No issues reported as yet with metadata, but open the GUi, click the advanced tab. Ensure use advanced metadata is unchecked.

If it is already unchecked, copy and paste the contents of your settings file into a post together with a sample of one of your filenames and I will take a closer look.

  3. Aaron Perrault says:

That was it. Thank you so very much. That appears to have worked

Hi mate, thanks for your reply. as to what command line options i would like to see in a new version. I like to run your app from multiple sources to other drives on my file server so having the option to run different settings via the command line would be the main option.

I suppose just calling a config file would work the best like

    batchGUI.exe -autostart -conf “c:\conf1.txt”
    batchGUI.exe -autostart -conf “c:\conf2.txt”

    Thanks
    Tom

Hi Mate, few more suggestions for the product if you dont mind.

1./ I have a lot of trailers, in fact one in every movie folder. they vary extentions such as flv or mp4 or mov. I see you already have a tick box to exclude .flv and.mp4 but unfortunetly not for .mov or any other extension. I was wondering if it would be an idea to expand on this somehow and more extensions excluded as an option.

2./ the other thing is really just a suggestion but i have a script which runs every night and encodes any new files (does this perfectly btw) and a log is generated every night which is also very very useful for checking if everything has run okay but the problem is that the logs clog up the install folder so maybe an idea to redirect these to a simple logs folder just to tidy up (trivial i know 🙂

Thanks again, all in all a great product.

  6. themugger says:

Hi ya, another feature request would be to have the name of the file batchencoder is currently encoding in the little window as well as the progress?

    Thanks

I have a question regarding the query strings.

I’m converting for my EEE pad transformer (TF101) and I found this optimalisation for Handbrake: http://www.ryukent.com/2011/05/asus-eeepad-transformer-handbrake-settings/

I would like to try this, but I can’t find the parameters to apply the last three settings. I have looked into the Handbrake parameter documentation, but it doesn’t entirely match the query string in BatchEncoder.

Maybe it would be neat to insert a TF101 preset, as it is quite a popular device 🙂

    • videoscripts says:

      Hi

You need to generate this query in handbrake itself. Open HB – start query editor. Then program the settings based on he advice in that post for your EEE. Copy the final query, paste it to batch encoder and save it as a custom preset.

Sounds like a lot of work, but it’s a two minute job.

  8. Brett says:

Please make it handle TV show dvd’s better. I’m assuming I need to say encode all titles but when it gets past the actual eps. it’s starts encoding special features until I get some invalid command line message. I have to do each iso individually because it bombs out. Other then that it is totally awesome. Thank you so much for a great tool!

  9. Joey says:

I seem to be getting an error every time I encode. It’s always the same error with different files. In this case here is what the error is.

Error: The following variable name contains an illegal character: “C:\ToConvert\NCIS Season 9 Episode 1 – Nature Of The Beast.avi”

    The current thread will exit.

    Line#
    3840:SplitPath,%source%,movefilename

    I have the screenshot here.

    Any suggestions?

  10. Joey says:

Thanks so much! That worked perfectly! This drag and drop encoder will save me so much time, thanks a ton for your time you put into it!

  11. Travas says:

Just found this program and love it!! No problems really with my avi files but some of my dvds i have ripped with anydvd when they encode i find in the mp4 folder multiiple encodes of the same movie. Example when i encoded my old copy of Aliens when it finalllllly got through i opened the resulting folder and found like 10 fully encoded mp4 copies of the movie….. Any thoughts or suggestions?

  12. Tom says:

I am experiencing the error with the ‘Move Original Files’ option. When the next scheduled batch runs it does not recognize that the encode was previously completed because i have the option selected to rename the files. Any chance to get a fix for the move original files option? It would save a considerable amount of time. 🙂

Is this an issue with the combination of the rename file and the move both being selected?

    • videoscripts says:

      Tom

Yes, this is expected – the check for files already encoded doesn;t work well with either move or rename. Reason is thats its a very simple check – it does not log what it has already encoded, it just checks if the same target filename exists. Since rename runs on metadata after the encode, its not programmed to check that in advance. I can see me trying to address this reasonably soon, as its become an issue for me also! Will keep you posted.

  13. davidredding says:

    Hi!

I downloaded and tried this for the first time last night and LOVE it. One thing though. I checked the metadata and add to iTunes and it did neither. The program said it added the files to iTunes but they never showed up in my library.

I saw that you said you need to uncheck the “Advanced Metadata” box for the metadata to be written properly but what about the program not adding the files to iTunes? Could it have something to do with Windows User Accounts? No big deal really, but if this worked I could just walk away and have this awesome program do everything for me 😉

    • videoscripts says:

Hi – its possible that it tried to add metadata but failed in its ‘guess’. If you can send me the contents of the settings file and also an example name for one of the files you were encoding, I ca let you know whats happening or what you need to change. Also, what OS are you using? (32/64)

  14. Ian says:

I have a boatload of foreign TV to process, and this looks like the answer to my prayers.

Unfortunately, I don’t know how to make it add subtitles to the output file. You have a setting for incorporating SRT files into the resulting MP4, but nothing for processing MKV files with the subtitles inside. Is it possible to process these automagically?

    • videoscripts says:

There is no real way to do that in a batch scenario – most files will have different subs line ups – you can only batch when they are all identical. You could try a custom handbrake query on some of your files (open a file in HB, select subs and options etc and then paste that into batch).

  15. de3ik says:

Hi. I am using the encoder, but for some reason there is no sound on any of the videos it outputs. How can this be fixed? It’s doing a great job reducing the size of the videos, I just need it to convert them with sound. I’m using this script: -f mp4 –strict-anamorphic -e x264 -q 25 -r 29.97 –cfr -a none -m -x ref=1:weightp=1:subq=2:rc-lookahead=10:trellis=0:8x8dct=0 –verbose=1

    Thanks for your help.

  16. de3ik says:

Also I checked the query just now and I’m wondering, but you are the expert. Could this be because the audio says none and in the Handbrake there is no audio track at the time the query is created? Please help me to understand this. Thanks.

  17. de3ik says:

I tried the encoder again and now it refuses to encode any videos at all. It worked before without sound, now it won’t do the conversions at all. I’m using script -f mp4 –strict-anamorphic -e x264 -q 27 -r 29.97 –cfr -a none -m -x ref=1:weightp=1:subq=2:rc-lookahead=10:trellis=0:8x8dct=0 –verbose=1

It says HandbrakeCLI failed to run Error 31. What should I do?

  18. John says:

im not sure if im doing something wrong. i have been using batchencoder fro awhile and i have donated to support you. just a fyi. great product. it seems to be hot and cold when i download tv shows and convert them it doesn’t mark them as tv show and label the tv show. I have it search a directory with the tv show directories in it and convert to that directory. but most of the time I have to eneter the tv show name in itunes and mark it as a tv show. is there away I can make it mark everything as a tv show for one and some how fine tune it so it will find the tv show name. the tv shows are popular so that isn’t the case. i have to do this for just about all the shows. if I can’t force it to do this then maybe an option the manually enter a list in B.E. to mark those shows name and mark as TV show.

Long time no post for me…
Just wanted to ask if there is an issue with the batch encoder and Windows 8…it does not appear to want to work…it will say that it is encoding, will give a AvFPS and a time left, but will not show any progress on the bar and will eventually lock up…
    Any suggestions?
